Montessori Alberta offers a Montessori pre-school program in a prepared classroom environment for children three to six years of age. The program is based on the philosophy and method of Dr. Maria Montessori. The children are enrolled into the program when they turn three.

The Primary Program

The primary program is divided into three areas:

The Kindergarten Program

The kindergarten program is structured with the academic learning skills. The child is approximately four-and-a-half to five years of age. The children are offered a wide variety of activities in language skills, arithmetic, geography, and botany group activities, as well as individual, one-on-one, and creative art.

Unlike a traditional kindergarten, the Montessori Kindergarten provides an early enthusiasm for learning and is the key to the child becoming a truly educated person.

The parents should understand that a Montessori school is neither a babysitting service nor a play school that prepares a child for traditional kindergarten. It is a special cycle of learning designed to take advantage of the child’s sensitive years between three and six. At this time, the child is able to absorb information from an enriched environment.

The entire program of learning is purposefully structured with the child in mind.
